Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboarding RunsWhat a nice surprise to come back from my Caribbean vacation yesterday and see emails from Juicy that she and Leila booked the condo in Jackson Hole.  Woo hoo!  Can’t wait for this one - we love new snowboarding vacation destinations.  If anyone has any tips about secret runs, favorite restaurants and bars, or other insider local knowledge, let us know!

We’re staying at the Loveridge Lodge  for the first week of January.  Now it’s time to herd some cats and get the group organized and paid up ;-)

Rip Curl’s “Couch Wars” photo contest

Filed under: Just for Fun — Erica on October 11, 2008 @ 5:33 pm

Are you just counting the days till you can hit the hill again?  Take advantage of some of this time by entering the Rip Curl photo contest below:

Couch Wars

from the press release:  “Open to everyone 18 and over, ‘Couch Wars’ is a photo search presented by Rip Curl aimed to ease the boredom of the time between when summer ends and when the snow starts to fall. The rules are simple, as there is really only one rule; all entries must be tasteful and include a couch, but other than that anything goes. There will be weekly drawings until the contest winner is announced the 15th of December.

All entries must be submitted to ripcurlsnow@ripcurl.com along with the entrant’s date of birth.”

Hmmmm…. perhaps a new category for this blog: “Hotties on the Couch?”  haha

Opening Days for Snowboarding Resorts

Filed under: Local SoCal Mountains, Mountain Prep — Erica on @ 10:16 am

Countdown!  With the weather in Southern California finally cooling down, my thoughts once again turned to snowboarding.  Especially after I got an email letting me know Mammoth Mountain opens on November 13!  (and Woolly is going to be there!)

Here’s some heads-ups on some other opening days at snowboard and ski resorts that we love:

Opening days at our local snowboarding resorts (Snow Summit and Bear Mountain) are not posted - they say “We will begin snowmaking operations as soon as the weather remains cold and dry. We will announce our expected open date when we begin snowmaking.”  Well, continue to hang tight, because today their site says the temp is 72!!!

Another trip is in the works too - I was invited as a VIP attendee to a marketing conference at Deer Valley (in Park City, UT) and so I am getting free airfare and lodging there. Sweet!  Bummer is, that is a ski-only resort… argh!  Looks like I’ll be hitting up one of the two other resorts in the town.  I went to Park City Mountain Resort a few years ago and it wasn’t the greatest conditions, but we’ll see how it looks in the beginning of December.

So it’s October - those opening days are not far off!  Are you in shape for the season yet?  Get those legs ready to snowboard, and let’s hope for a snowy winter in 2008-2009.

Back to the blog! Snowboard-Women coming out of hiatus

Filed under: Snowboarding Vacations, Snowboarding Gear — wpadmin on October 5, 2008 @ 10:52 am

(blowing the dust off this blog from its summertime hiatus)

It’s time to get ready for snowboarding season again!  The summer is over and it’s already October - where does the time go? - and we are planning our trips for the year.  First big trip will be to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in the first week of January.  I’m sure there will be other trips before that, specifically to Mammoth Mountain and Snow Summit just to get ready.  We really don’t gear up for big trips until after the first of the year.

With that said, I’ve been bookmarking some news I’ve seen in the past month or so, that might be of interest as you get ready to hit the hill yourself!

For what it’s worth, I recommend you check out fellow snowboarder bloggers Adam over at Highly Obsessed and Shay over at Shayboarder - both have been significantly more active than we here at Snowboard Women have been this summer.  I have particularly been enjoying Shay’s Snowboard Industry Profiles, where over the summer, she interviewed about 30 people who work in the snowboarding industry and posted the transcripts on her blog.  Great stuff!

So, as for this blog, there’s more to come as we really get in the spirit of the winter season :-)
